This is a section of my I SPY display. Below are the rhyme riddles to go with the display.






Use your mind, use your eye;
read the riddles – play I SPY!

I spy a library card, some animals that bark;
A little steel tub, and more than one shark.

I spy a cat, a lion, a Lego car;
A yellow bus, and colored pompoms in a jar.

I spy a snake that is big, a pig that is tiny;
An alien that is green, and a fish that is shiny.

I spy four clothes pins, a plastic crown;
A shushing librarian, and mouse that is brown.

I spy the red letter ‘A’, a helicopter that’s blue;
Two shiny stars, and a cow that says, MOO!

Halloween Activity

I made this box covered with black paper to be our "Spooky Box" to go along with the book.  I filled it with little lollipop ghosts to give to the kids at the end of storytime.  I gave the box a shake and had them guess what was in it several times throughout the storytime.

Ten dogs in the Window by Claire Masurel

The Spooky Box by Mark Ganyea

     With fun, dramatic designs, Mark Gonyea shows the scary things that might slither, slice, or slide their way out, from a ton of toads to a bunch of old bones to a robot with laser eyes. When it comes time to open the box, it’s up to the reader to lift the lid!

I made my own spooky box for Halloween Storytime that was full of little ghost lollipops.  I had the kids guess what was in the box throughout storytime and gave the box a few shakes to help them.
